Despite what thrill seekers may say, it really is not necessary to climb the top of a mountain range to truly enjoy self body lifting. Of course, if you want a nice view to look out over as you congratulate yourself, then it’s perfect. But urban and rural locations provide just as many opportunities, albeit in a scaled down form.
Look in any city and we will find plenty of walls, hills and other such vertical structures that can be safely scaled. In fact, many cities have climbing clubs that seek out and take advantage of urban settings. Many of these clubs will also team up with rock climbing enthusiasts for instance, and via sharing their skills, will put together some amazing urban assault challenges that test self body lifting skills to their limits. There is nothing more fun than scaling the side of an office block whilst pedestrians and cars go about their business below. And the best bit is that because these people are enthusiasts who do it for fun rather than money, the most you will likely pay is a token donation. Still want to spend hundreds on a weekend of climbing?
But we can also do it on our own. As long as we are considerate of safety and the effect our actions have on others, with some inexpensive yet compliant and safe equipment, we can spend as much time as we want in the countryside climbing rock faces, gorges and cliffs. Every time we put ourselves up that road we are lifting our bodies and making for a really exhilarating workout.
Of course, it’s definitely true that having a view over the Alps is more fun to look at when we climb than staring out and seeing the local sewage works. But, in all honesty, most of us do not have the time, inclination or funds to engage in body lifting activities in far-off and exotic corners of the world. And in any case, body lifting in an urban setting gives us a chance to relearn our surroundings and look at our hometowns and cities in a whole new way.
