Creating a ‘Young’ Look Regardless of Age

There is nothing worse when seeing someone who looks far too old for the clothes they are wearing. This is because they simply have not done it right. Done properly, any person, regardless of their age, can successfully take on a new or old look and make it appear effortless. And let’s face it; the opposite sex is always going to be more attracted to a person who appears younger than they are.

The key is to try this in small steps. Sixty-year-old man in a skin-tight tracksuit is not going to look good. But blending in a smart track jacket with some slim fitting trousers, let’s that young edge creep in and makes the wearer look younger naturally. With that in mind, we can make small yet impactful statements with the clothes we wear.

Headgear and accessories are possibly one of the most overlooked areas. Swapping out an analogue gold chain watch for a smart watch or digital timepiece is just one way. A snapback baseball cap is not only rejuvenating, is a conversation piece. Wearing a correctly sized snapback with an obscure team on is a head turner. Everyone has seen a New York Yankees hat, but how many people wear a Toronto Maple Leafs or even a Florida Gators cap? Be individual and it lessens the impression of trying hard.

Skinny or slim jeans with a fitted t-shirt are also a ‘younger person’s typical garb but it’s not exclusive to them. And when it comes to shoes, a pair of Converse or Vans is a subtle way of showing a younger, adventurous side; no need to go full checkerboard, but a simple blank wingtip will take years off of a look.

The old adage of “you’re only as old as you feel” has weight here. If we let our age determine the way we dress, we naturally allow ourselves to get older gracefully. When we were dating or trying to impress someone, we want to show a slightly rebellious side without looking desperate. Find what works for you, and your youthful side will naturally come out in the clothes you wear.
