Using Modern Technology for Holiday Fitness

There are obviously a lot of things we do on holiday that we take for granted, such as walking, swimming or mountain climbing; they’re all things that we know keep us fit, but sometimes it is important and enjoyable to mix things up a little bit. Not only does this keep our minds turning, it also increases the likelihood that we will go out and actually exercise as we know that there is something new waiting for us.

To aid us in this quest, modern technology has given us some fantastic apps and even games that we can use to make fun and at the same time exhausting activities. Many people now find themselves turning to augmented reality apps, whereby a simple walk down the street suddenly becomes a run from marauding zombie hordes, or where a trip to the supermarket is now a quest to place our team’s flag in enemy territory. Sure, we can simply walk around and enjoy the beautiful holiday scenery, but once we’re done with that, why not turn it into an opportunity to let our inner child out and burn off some energy in the process?

If augmented reality is not your thing, that’s totally fine. If you can rent a cheap bike for a day, most Smartphones will allow you to download routes and maps that are intended to incorporate a mixture of a workout and a chance to see some sights. Cycling around the harbour might be fun, but going off the beaten track for a few miles and finding a hidden lagoon, looking down and realising we have burned off our daily caloric target is even more fun.

Let’s not forget that we go on holiday to enjoy the location in all its stunning (and real) beauty. But modern technology gives us a chance to peel back the layers and put an exciting and new fitness programme over the top of things we might take for granted. So try turning the hotel complex into a battlefield or post apocalyptic outpost. You just got two holidays (and workouts!) for the price of one.
