Some Holiday Exercises

Holidays should be a time for relaxing but at the same time they are also a time when we typically more, drink more and where our calorie counts and exercise regimes falter the wayside. However, we don’t want to be bogging down our holiday with worries of getting some sort of equilibrium in place where we work off our calories day by day. That’s not relaxation. There are some common sense things we can do to bolt one or two activities onto the side of our holiday routine without it affecting our enjoyment.

Look at your surroundings on holiday and see the opportunities that are present. If our hotel room in the 15th floor, try taking the stairs up and down each time. It will only add a few minutes onto your journey, but do that three or four times and your step count and resistance based input will be smashed. If you have a balcony, then within safety constraints, push-ups before breakfast and before bed will mean you have taken in some sun and build your biceps up with little effort. If there is a roof terrace, that’s an ideal place to do 15 minutes of circuit running before the sun comes up.

There are also ways to turn excursions into a chance to exercise. Whether it is swimming offer the coral reef, diving or mountaineering, these are all physical activities that are going to exercise all of the muscle groups whilst still allowing us to enjoy our holiday and, more importantly, be cognisant of relaxation.

There is no point doing things that are going to be directly contradictory to what we enjoy. If we hate the water, making ourselves swim is going to ruin the ambience. But if we love the beach, getting in and swimming for 20 minutes every few hours is going to work us over without biting into our personal time. It’s about finding the things that we love and capitalising on all of the little opportunities that they bring in terms of enhancing our fitness. So whether is swimming or caving, enjoy the workout!
