Spending money on expensive equipment, gym and health club memberships and all singing, all dancing apps is all well and good, but only if we have the disposable income. There is no need, especially if we can’t spare the cash, to spend hundreds or even thousands on keeping fit. It is something that can come to us organically and, more importantly, free of charge.
This doesn’t mean we need to forego the same luxuries as our more wealthy fellow fitness enthusiasts. Look around any fitness company or app developer and you will see that they are throwing out free trials like confetti. Anything from a day, to a week or even a month is the norm. Rotating free trials from various gyms is a great way to rack up anything up to a year of free membership. Similarly, many apps will do a free trial, but searching for a free equivalents will often bring up something that may not look as good, but will bring exactly the same results.
We also need to remember that the outside world (and inside of our homes if we’re inventive!) provide us with so many free opportunities to get fit; running, swimming in a lake or the sea (weather permitting) or getting hold of an old used bicycle for free and cycling are all ways we can burn calories without burning through money.
There are also ways that we can actually monetise our fitness! There are many apps out there now that will track our step or distance count and reward the user with anything from free products to gift cards to actual money once a certain goal or amount of activity has been reached. Nobody is going to get rich from it, by is a great way to spur ourselves on and enjoy even a small reward for our efforts.
It is very easy to get disheartened by the booming fitness industry and the costs that exercise can incur. However, just remember that cavemen managed to stay fit before money was even invented; we don’t need to spend a penny on our fitness.
